Education Specialist: Administration Supervision

The Department of Educational Leadership, Counselor Education, Human and Organizational Development at Clemson University offers an NCATE accredited program of graduate study leading to the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in educational administration. This program fulfills the certification requirements of states that require the completion of a nationally accredited two-year program of study for certification as a central office administrator/superintendent.

Admission Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from a college or university that has an accredited program in school administration. It is expected that applicants hold principal certification or earn that certification before completing the Ed.S. degree.
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience or the equivalent prior to admission
  • Admission to the Clemson Graduate School

Program Requirements:

The program of study for the Ed.S. degree in educational administration requires the completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate study beyond the Master’s degree.

Certification:

A student must be certified as a principal prior to completing the Ed.S. program. Students without principal’s certification must fulfill program requirements before they can be admitted to candidacy for the Ed.S. degree. Candidacy is defined as the final 21 semester hours of the program.

Completion of the Ed.S. qualifies the student for superintendent’s certification in South Carolina based on meeting other state requirements for certification. A passing PRAXIS score is required prior to recommendation of certification.
