Master of Arts: Early Childhood Education

Furman's graduate program is designed for the classroom teacher. We know the challenges school teachers face each and every day, and we are committed to preparing educators who are scholars and leaders.The master's of arts degree in education is for certified teachers. Early Childhood, Special Education and TESOL are all add-on certifications. (Concentration is for teachers who have met South Carolina Department of Education Requirements for certification in elementary education.)

Students must complete an approved program of study consisting of a minimum of 30 hours of graduate work with an overall B average and no more than two grades of C. Included in the program is a prescribed core of four courses (12 hours) in education.

The education department reserves the right to make appropriate substitutes for the required core courses and to designate other courses to complete any individual program of study. All work for the master's degree, including transferred credit, must be completed within a period of six years.
