Bachelor of Science: Political Science

Political science focuses on the structure, process, and outcomes of politics and government. The programs include courses in the areas of American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political philosophy, methodology, public administration, public policy, and public law.

Goals and Objectives:

All students graduating from Lander University with a degree in political science will:
  • attain a factual understanding in most of the generally-recognized areas of the discipline;
  • be equipped with skills of political analysis;
  • possess skills essential for success in careers related to political science;
  • acquire skills and knowledge to enable them to be effective citizens; and
  • exhibit their capacity to read retentively, to express their ideas in writing concisely and to express their ideas in speech precisely.
  • addition, all students graduating from Lander University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science will be equipped to undertake post-graduate professional study in political science, public administration, or related areas of study.

Students wishing to pursue careers in political science research, politics and campaigning, public administration, teaching, or other professions where social science skills are necessary should pursue the Bachelor of Science degree.

Two-year college graduates with acceptable two-year college credits may complete the bachelor’s degree requirements taking a part-time load (less than 12 hours) in approximately two to three calendar years by successfully completing Lander’s required courses during fall, spring and summer sessions.
