Educational Specialist in Educational Administration

College of Education

The College of Education offers the Educational Specialist (EdS) in educational administration degree program in a blended format consisting of both traditional and distance delivery of courses. The degree program offers a program of required and elective courses that will lead to school district superintendency certification in South Carolina.

Distance courses are offered online and via live televised instruction that benefit degree-seeking students with professional obligations.

Admissions Requirements

For admission to The Graduate School, a baccalaureate or higher degree from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency is normally required. Applicants should submit a complete application packet including official transcripts of college academic work, letters of recommendation, and official score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller's Analogy Test (MAT). The Graduate Bulletin and Admission Application are available online.

In addition to the above, applicants should have:
  • Three years of teaching experience
  • A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • South Carolina certification in principalship
  • 3.0 or better on all previous graduate work and minimum of 2.5 on undergraduate work
  • a statement of intent explaining how admission to the program will help the applicant reach professional goals

Degree Requirements

The 33 hour Ed. S. degree program in educational administration is nested in the 66 hour Ph. D. program in educational administration.

The Ed. S. is composed of three major areas:
  • Core required courses
  • Cognate courses
  • Research course
