Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Attainment
The College of Education Doctor or Philosophy degree program (Ph. D.) in educational administration is offered via distance education, either live broadcast through the ETV network or on the web and a portion of the courses will be offered fully on-site in central locations where strong participation in the programs is evident. The dissertation and seminar courses required in the Ph. D. program will be offered on the Columbia campus.
Admissions Requirements
For admission to The Graduate School, a baccalaureate or higher degree from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency is normally required. Applicants should submit a complete application packet including official transcripts of college academic work, letters of recommendation, and official score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller's Analogy Test (MAT). The Graduate Bulletin and Admission Application are available online.
In addition to the above, applicants should have:
- Three years of teaching experience
- A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
- South Carolina certification in principalship
- 3.0 or better on all previous graduate work and minimum of 2.5 on undergraduate work
- a statement of intent explaining how admission to the program will help the applicant reach professional goals
Added consideration will be given to candidates who have had increasingly responsible leadership positions in the field as well as civic/service/professional organization leadership roles.
Applicants will be interviewed by a committee of EDLP faculty and will satisfactorily complete a writing examination.
In addition to the above, applicants should submit the supplemental information.
Admission to the School of Library and Information Science is selective and is based on the faculty’s assessment of the applicant’s aptitude for graduate study and potential contribution to the profession. SLIS takes a holistic approach to the admissions process. Consequently, an applicant’s entire file is taken into consideration before an admission decision is made.
