College of Engineering and Information Technology
The College of Engineering and Information Technology offers the Master of Engineering, Master of Science in Engineering, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree programs in the following areas: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Nuclear Engineering. These courses are offered through APOGEE (A Program of Graduate Engineering Education), a distance education program developed to meet the needs of busy professionals by providing flexible course delivery. The video streamed courses are accessible through broadband internet connection. This delivery allows working engineers to pursue an advanced degree on a part time basis.
Admissions Requirements
For admission to The Graduate School, a baccalaureate or higher degree from a college or university accredited by a regional accrediting agency is normally required. Applicants should submit a complete application packet including official transcripts of college academic work, letters of recommendation, and official score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants whose native language is not English must also take the TOEFL or the University of Cambridge's IELTS Academic Course Type 2 exam. Additional requirements for admission to the individual engineering programs vary. Specific information concerning each program is available on their web sites. Degree Requirements
The requirements for graduate courses in engineering conform to the regulations of The Graduate School. Students are responsible for satisfying both departmental and Graduate School requirements. Specific information about the individual engineering departments may be obtained by accessing the department web sites linked above.
Courses
Graduate engineering courses are taught by College of Engineering and Information Technology faculty and offered through streamed video on the web. Students access the courses through broadband internet connections. For students without broadband access, tapes of the classes can be mailed to students for an additional fee. Courses may require attendance at USC Columbia on selected Saturdays at the discretion of the instructor. Specific course topics and requirements vary by engineering department.
