Policy for Governing Computer Lab Usage

The University Center of Greenville (the Center) has seven computer labs available for instructional use. The smallest labs have 18 computers and the larger labs have 35 computers. All lab computers have the latest Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office.

Lab assignment will be determined by the Center’s Program Coordinator based upon information supplied by the requesting instructor or member institution. Information will include the number of participants in the lab and any additional software to be used.

If the instructor desires to use additional software, the following must be supplied to the Center’s Technology Manager no less than one month before the first scheduled lab session. Any requests after that date will be handled as quickly as possible.

No software will be installed on lab computers without this required information

A current copy of the software license indicating institutional ownership and quantity sufficient for number of lab participants.
A Windows XP compatible copy of the software on CD. No DOS software will be installed.

All software must be compatible with Windows XP.
Software that is public domain, freeware, shareware, owned by the instructor or lab participant, demonstration, or any other classification will not be installed without prior consultation and consent of the Technology Manager.
Updated information must be supplied if the software is to be used during another course or semester.
No hardware, cards, chips, or peripheral devices may be attached to lab computers without prior approval of the Technology Manager.
Computers available for common use in the Library shall also be governed by this policy.
The Technology Manager is the final determinant of compliance with this policy.
Software will be removed at the end of each course or semester at the date indicated by the instructor below.

Failure to comply with this policy will result in the loss of computer lab use privileges.

According to applicable copyright law, persons involved in the illegal reproduction of software can be subject to civil damages and criminal penalties including fines and imprisonment. The Center does not condone the illegal duplication of software.
