Distance Education Policy

Scheduling

  1. An institution which purchased and installed distance education equipment (hereafter called the “priority institution”) will have priority class scheduling privileges of that equipment. The following stipulation will apply: “Priority institution” must supply the UCG with their scheduled classes 12 weeks in advance of any academic semester.  After that date, the conditions in # II apply.

    A master schedule will be maintained at the UCG. All requests should come in writing to Jay Dugaw 864.250.1111, Fax 864.250.8900, or E-mail: jdugaw@clemson.edu, He will notify the priority institution of requests for use.

  2. Other consortium members can use the rooms and distance education equipment when not scheduled by the “priority institution.”

    The following stipulations will apply:

    1. Requests will be considered on a first come-first served basis. However, courses in direct support of a UCG degree program will receive priority. All course requests should be submitted 12 weeks before any academic semester. Each institution will then be notified of room availability.

    2. Arrangements for any line charges, equipment, or technical support fees incurred by the requesting institution must be clarified in writing with the “priority institution.”

Proctoring

All institutions should agree on an hourly fee for proctors. Then each institution should submit their requests to Martha White at 864.250.8053 (telephone), 864.250.8689 (Fax), E-Mail:  martha.white@gvltec.edu.

Jay Dugaw, Evening Program Coordinator, can distribute and collect tests. He cannot remain in a class during a testing period due to ongoing duties in the building.

Instructional Support

Institutions offering distance education are responsible for advising their faculty of the technology requirements and abilities of the Center. Instructional support is the responsibility of the offering institution. The institutional development staff on each campus should be available to faculty as needed. It will be the responsibility of the home institution to schedule time with the D.E. Technician at the University Center to familiarize faculty with the UCG facility including its capabilities and/or limitations.  Institutions should be responsible for assuring that their equipment is operable and compatible for transmission and reception.
