University Center of Greenville Supporters Rally in Columbia
Greenville, S.C. (February 2, 2009) – A group of students, university leadership and local business leaders will head to Columbia on behalf of the University Center of Greenville (UCG) next Wednesday, February 4, 2009. The supporters will attend a breakfast meeting with delegation members, hosted by UCG, to voice their support for the Center, which is currently projected to receive no state funding in the 2009-2010 State Budget.
Business leaders attending from UCG’s Board of Visitors include Minor Shaw, David Posek and Nick Theodore. Greenville Chamber members include John DeWorken and Michele Brinn, on behalf of the Advanced Education Partnership between UCG and the Chamber. The UCG students in attendance are from Clemson University and USC Upstate, the two schools with the largest presence of students at UCG.
The group hopes to encourage Greenville’s delegation members to support reinstating UCG in the State Budget. The Center is asking for comparable cuts to its $1.5 million 2008-2009 appropriation, as other higher institutions are receiving. For more information, visit www.ucgreenville.org.
